G. I. Joe & Lillie

A friend sent me a link to this very touching song, which was written by Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys.  It is a tribute to his parents, both of whom served in the military during World War II.  He wrote the song in conjunction with his book, G. I. Joe & Lillie: Remembering a Life of Love and Loyalty.
I doubt you will be able to watch the video without shedding a few tears.
I know I couldn't.

How very touching. I almost made it through without crying. But that ending brought the tears. Thanks for sharing.

So touching and true. My husband is 80 and having long suppressed flashbacks to his days in Korea that leave him crying in the night. With so many young soldiers now facing the same future, I pray to God we will learn a better way. "When will they ever learn" comes to mind from the"Where have all the flowers gone" song of the 60's. Thank you so much for posting this.

I know, G. My ex-husband served in Vietnam and he suffered many, many flashbacks during the 19 years we spent together. (He has severe PTSD.)

My uncle served in the army during WW II, participating in the battle of Anzio Beach. (I plan to post about him in the next week or so.) Not long ago, I asked him if he has flashbacks. "They never stop," he said.

He is 92 years old.
